Critical Care Echo

Back to accreditation.

BSE Adult Critical Care Echo is an equivalent formal accreditation pathway to BSE TTE. It involves the completion of an MCQ exam, 250 formal scans and a practical exam.

More information can be found at the BSE website.

The knowledge required for critical care is mostly the same as for TTE but with more focus on volume assessment, cardiac output and dynamic physiology influenced by cardiovascular support and mechanical ventilation. More info on the conventional BSE Level 2 TTE is here.

Below is a compilation of my notes and information for the ACCE curriculum and some additional topics I’ve needed in clinical practice. Click on each link for more information. This is by no means comprehensive and the notes are designed as being a quick reference for myself rather than a revision guide for others. Many images are missing as personal notes included screenshots from textbooks. Images will be added here in due course.

A link to my quizlet flashcards for the exam is here.
